Another hearing in another court...

Ang swerte ko naman kanina.

I was a bit nervous waiting for the judge today. Pretrial na kasi and, although I prepared a Pretrial Brief, I wasn’t going to submit it dahil balak namin mag-amend ng Answer. Then, since yung authorized signatory of our client corporations is still abroad and coming back in September pa, I was also about to ask the judge for a period of one month (!) within which to file the Amended Answer. Usually, you’re allowed extensions of time na 10 to 15 days. But one month? Hindi ko pa nagagawa na humingi ng extra one month to file  anything.

So I was nervous. I hadn’t met the judge yet as this was the first hearing for the case. Kung strict si judge, siguradong hindi maga-grant yung motion ko. Kung evil si judge, malamang pagagalitan pa niya ako.

Buti na lang, mabait si judge. She struck me as nice and motherly.

Buti na lang din at yung opposing counsel ko was still stuck in traffic and failed to make it on time sa court. Apparently, she called the court earlier to request for a second call. Pero by the time na maalala ni clerk of court na nagpasecond call si opposing counsel, I had said my piece and judge was about 75% inclined to grant it. So when the clerk informed the judge of the request for second call, sabi ni judge na alangan naman raw pag-antayin ako.

So ang ending? Malamang surprised si opposing counsel that I got away with what I got away with. Sometimes talaga sinuswerte ako.
