If you were coming in the fall - Emily Dickinson
If you were coming in the fall,   I ’d brush the summer by   With half a smile and half a spurn,   As housewives do a fly.       If I could see you in a year,           I ’d wind the months in balls,   And put them each in separate drawers,   Until their time befalls.       If only centuries delayed,   I ’d count them on my hand,          Subtracting till my fingers dropped   Into Van...

I went to Batad, Ifugao over the weekend. Yes, Batad, that quaint little village up in the mountains. The trip was in line with my, uh, quest to live a little (bit more). The ostensible purpose was to see more of what the Philippines had to offer. The actual goal was, of course, bragging rights to having conquered such a tough trek (if I may say so myself). The trip up north took almost ten hours...

the lack of good write-ups about which bars are cool for beer and music. Very briefly, I flirt with the idea of coming up with one myself. Wouldn’t it be cool to get nominated for the Supreme Court and have to explain/defend to the JBC how I should be included in the shortlist of recommendees to the President despite my being acknowledged as an expert in, err, Bacchanalian pursuits? ETA: I...

Wherein I diss One Day...
right at the cinema’s CR just after the movie was shown. I said it was either pandering or exploitative, depending on the emotional state of the viewer. I imagine I ended up ruining the afterglow of the movie for some of the girls, mid-swoon over Jim Sturgess. Of course, I called dibs on Jim Sturgess before the movie began.

Later tonight,
I will pretend to be hoity toity, artsy fartsy at this thing: The Philippine International Art Fair. Watch me as I ooh and aah over the pretty (?) pictures I cannot afford. I’ll try to post pics later—not of the art but of me looking at art :) (ETA: Of course, I didn’t get to go. I LOVE my job *repeat 100 times*.)

Let's get physical.
Officially started my gym-ing today. First day program was a bitch. Three sets of pushing, pulling, and lifting things heavy, much too heavy for my puny arms. Have a feeling waking up tomorrow will bring a lot of pain. You’d think the Gym-Boy would start me off easy, get me to enjoy the idea of gym-ing first. At least, I did. Not a chance! There were smaller dumbbells available. I saw them....

William Butler Yeats - Brown Penny
I whispered, ‘I am too young,’ And then, ‘I am old enough’; Wherefore I threw a penny To find out if I might love. ‘Go and love, go and love, young man, If the lady be young and fair.’ Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny, I am looped in the loops of her hair. O love is the crooked thing, There is nobody wise enough To find out all that is in it, For...

Missed connections
Came across a blog post about how much fun reading the craigslist missed connections could be. Oo nga, there are some gems hidden amongst the booty calls. Nakakalungkot pa yung iba. I find myself rooting for them, hoping that they do find each other (gotta believe in magic!). There are no missed connections in romantic movies. Sana ganon din in “real” life. As it is, my life is a...

Fail!
Ran to a bar to have my secretary’s certificate signed by the notaryo. Ran back to the office. Had the sec cert scanned. Emailed the sec cert to client’s auditor.  Went home. Ate dinner. Watched a bit of tv. Turned on the computer to check my email. Leche. Di ko pala na-attach yung sec cert. Sayang lang pagod ko.

Time management
Resolved to be more organized in my life. Now tracking how I spend my money and also making an effort to be more conscious of time. Tama naman yung sinabi ni Randy Pausch: Kailangan maging conscious ka that you don’t waste time. Money, you can always earn back. Pero time is finite and, once lost, hindi mo na mababawi. Scary stuff. Ang problema lang eh pupunta na naman bukas si Mr. Lee sa...

Sunday and my shitty bangs
Finally finished Randy Pausch’s The Last Lecture. At napaliguan ko na rin si Georgie kahit na galit na galit siya. Spent the whole day in bed, alternately watching videos online and reading the book. Ibig sabihin, I was reading the book while waiting for the video to load. My hands invariably stray to my bangs. Nakakainis talaga yung ginawa nung bading sa bangs ko. Sabi ko na nga ba. I...

The judge that = Evil.
Markk wanted me to attend a hearing for him on Monday. He will be in Bangkok kasi this weekend until early next week. Hindi pa ako umo-oo and he was trying to get me to agree by saying how simple the hearing was going to be dahil hearing on the motion lang naman raw. So I cut him short and said, “Markk, alam mo naman kung ano ang pinakaimportanteng question sa akin eh.” He goes,...

Feng Shui
Kahapon ng umagang-umaga, before I was even in the office, my client arrived. He was adamant na kahapon na namin i-file yung GIS. You know why? Apparently, he consulted a feng shui expert at ang sabi ni feng shui expert sa kanya na until yesterday lang ang auspicious time for him to file the GIS sa SEC. You really do meet all sorts of people in this profession.

Another hearing in another court...
Ang swerte ko naman kanina. I was a bit nervous waiting for the judge today. Pretrial na kasi and, although I prepared a Pretrial Brief, I wasn’t going to submit it dahil balak namin mag-amend ng Answer. Then, since yung authorized signatory of our client corporations is still abroad and coming back in September pa, I was also about to ask the judge for a period of one month (!) within...

Heavy metal band = human
Since opposing counsel told me that he’s part of a heavy metal band, I’ve started to regard him as a human being. Before this, he was just evil cyborg opposing counsel who must be stopped in his evil tracks by Wonder Woman. Oh, and by the way, Wonder Woman = me.

Hmm.
And search via Google naman turns up either reference to Luna or to the Eraserheads. So bakit nga pa tumilapon ang spoliarium sa...

I received the Order from the Judge recently. And, apparently, the Shakespeare stunt worked. The Judge denied defendants’ motions to declare plaintiff (that’s me!) to have waived its right to present further evidence. Instead, we are being given three (3) more hearing dates for our witnesses. Awesome!

Hulst vs. PR Builders →
I was surprised to find this decision the other night while I was searching the Supreme Court database for cases on ‘real property ownership by foreigners’. Apparently, the Court had already decided on the Motion for Partial Reconsideration we filed while I was still with MABG. I did research and drafted the Motion. I signed it too (together with the handling partner, of course)....

I can't stop thinking about FrancisM
Ever since I heard the news about FrancisM’s passing, I haven’t been able to get it out of my mind. My friend B has the same type of leukemia that FrancisM had. She completed her chemo and has been pronounced well enough to go back to work. She’s been there for several months now and doing okay, though she’s cutting back on work so as not to tax her body too much. If I...

I did not go to the Eraserheads concert tonight....
I went to work today, really early. I stayed until mid-afternoon. I watched a movie this afternoon with Markk who, miraculously, agreed to buy me coffee and ensaymada. But only because I still had my change from the money I gave for the movie ticket earlier. So, scratch that. He didn’t buy me meryenda. He just subsidized it. I went around the mall a bit after Markk and I parted. Happily, I...

Harrassing Markk for RTE
Me: Kailan mo ba ako babayaran ng professional fee ko for appearing in the hearing for you?
Markk: Kailan mo nga ba kukunin?
Me: Kailangan may kasamang RTE (Reimbursement of Transpo Expense) yan no.
Markk: At bakit naman kita babayaran pa ng RTE? Tama na yung appearance fee.
Me: Siempre babayaran mo ako ng RTE!
Markk: At bakit???
Me: Because I did not magically appear there. I had to go there by some human-enabled means.

Today was one of those days
I had an exciting and very fulfilling day today. I had to rush through the lengths of both Commonwealth avenue and EDSA to get to my 8:30AM hearing in Pasig City. Traffic was, as expected, bad. The taxi driver’s inability to navigate the metropolis was a surprise. The ending? We made a wrong turn in Pasig and got stuck in heavy traffic along a very narrow unknown street. It was already...

Thinking of the end of the year and the coming of a new one and how Paul Simon’s American Tune sums up everything perfectly: Many’s the time I’ve been mistaken And many times confused Yes, and I’ve often felt forsaken And certainly misused Oh, but I’m all right, I’m all right I’m just weary to my bones Still, you don’t expect to be Bright and bon...

Just posting to say I had so much fun at the OCH Christmas Party last night. Tumambay din ako sa UP for a few hours. May magandang used books store sa may waiting shed sa likod ng Coop. Was able to buy four books for just P600. Maganda yung selections nila. Plus, if you buy P500 worth, you get 5% of off pa.
